Adana FAQ — escrow & secure payments in Nigeria
Clear answers about escrow services in Nigeria, buyer and seller protection, safe online transactions, and how Adana holds funds until delivery is verified.
Escrow basics
What escrow is and why buyers and sellers in Nigeria use it.
An escrow service is a trusted third party that holds money until both sides complete their part of a deal. With Adana, the buyer pays into secure escrow first. Funds stay locked until delivery is verified — then the seller (and carriers, where applicable) get paid. This protects both parties in online and high-value transactions across Nigeria and Africa.
An escrow service in Nigeria is especially useful whenever you do not fully trust the other party yet — Facebook Marketplace deals, Instagram or WhatsApp sellers, freelance work, electronics, vehicles, or land-related payments. Instead of sending a bank transfer and hoping for the best, you use a secure payment platform like Adana so money only moves after agreed conditions (such as verified delivery) are met.
For most peer-to-peer and marketplace deals, escrow is safer. A regular bank transfer releases money immediately with little buyer protection. Escrow keeps the payment safe online until goods or services are confirmed. That reduces fake payment alerts, goods-not-delivered scams, and disputes where one side claims they paid or delivered when they did not.
1) The seller creates an invoice on Adana. 2) The buyer pays the exact amount into escrow using the payment reference as narration. 3) Funds are held securely. 4) Delivery is confirmed with proof such as a delivery OTP (and location when shared). 5) Funds are released to the seller. If something goes wrong, the dispute flow keeps money locked until the case is resolved according to Adana’s process.
Buyer protection
How buyers can avoid scams and protect high-value purchases.
Buyer protection on Adana means your money is held in escrow until you confirm you received what you paid for. You are not relying on a seller’s promise after a bank transfer. For logistics-backed deals, confirmation can require a delivery OTP so funds only release when the handoff is verified — a stronger safeguard than trusting screenshots or verbal confirmation alone.
Never send money directly to an unknown seller for high-value items. Ask them to use an escrow payment platform. On Adana, pay only into the escrow account shown on your invoice, use the correct narration/reference, and confirm receipt only when you have the goods. Avoid releasing funds based on blurry photos, pressure tactics, or “pay now or lose the deal” messages common on social marketplaces.
Yes. Many scams in Nigeria start on Facebook Marketplace, Instagram shops, or WhatsApp Business chats. Adana is designed for safe online transactions: create or receive an invoice, fund escrow, then complete delivery confirmation before money is released. Share the Adana payment link instead of sending money to a personal account.
For high-value purchases — electronics, vehicles, business deals, or large marketplace orders — escrow is safer than cash-on-delivery or unverified transfers. Adana holds the payment until conditions are met, which is better buyer protection than relying on a single bank alert. Always verify the invoice details and payment reference before transferring.
Seller protection
How sellers and merchants avoid fake alerts and unpaid deliveries.
Seller protection starts with funded escrow. You can see that payment is held before you ship or hand over goods. That reduces “I already paid” fraud and fake transfer screenshots. After verified delivery confirmation, Adana releases funds to you — so you are not stuck chasing remittances or arguing over whether the buyer received the order.
Do not release goods based on a screenshot or SMS alone. On Adana, wait until the invoice shows funds held in escrow. Fake payment alerts are a common scam in Nigeria; escrow status inside Adana is the source of truth, not a forwarded bank notification. If the invoice is still awaiting payment, do not dispatch.
Yes. Digital escrow is a modern COD replacement: the buyer funds the order up front into a secure hold, but the seller only receives money after delivery is verified. That cuts cash leakage, fake notes, rider float risk, and delayed remittances while still giving buyers confidence that payment is protected until handoff.
Use cases
Escrow for freelancers, vehicles, land, electronics, and marketplaces.
Freelancer escrow protects both the client and the freelancer. The client funds Adana escrow for the agreed fee. The freelancer delivers the work. When the client confirms receipt (or agreed milestones), funds release. This is safer than starting work unpaid or sending full payment before delivery — especially for remote and digital-product jobs.
Yes. Escrow for digital products works the same way: buyer funds escrow, seller delivers access or files, buyer confirms, funds release. Use clear invoice descriptions so both sides know what “delivered” means. Adana’s confirmation step helps prevent chargeback-style disputes where access was never really provided.
For vehicle deals, never transfer the full amount to a personal account before inspection and paperwork. Use car escrow through Adana: fund the invoice, inspect the vehicle, complete the agreed handoff, then confirm so funds release. Escrow for vehicles Nigeria buyers and sellers reduces “pay and disappear” and “take the car and dispute payment” risks.
Escrow for land transactions can hold deposits or agreed payment tranches while due diligence, documentation, or handover steps proceed. Adana does not replace lawyers or land registries, but it provides a secure payment layer so money is not released until the parties confirm the agreed conditions. Always combine escrow with proper legal checks for real estate.
Yes. Electronics escrow and marketplace escrow are common Adana use cases: phones, laptops, appliances, and multi-vendor marketplace checkouts. Buyers get buyer protection; sellers get proof of funded escrow before shipping. Partners can also integrate Adana’s Delivery Assurance API for programmable release after confirmed delivery.
Adana is built as a trusted escrow payment platform for Africa, with strong focus on Nigerian commerce patterns (bank transfer narration, local logistics, marketplace behaviour in Lagos, Abuja, and beyond). The same escrow model — hold, verify delivery, release — applies to regional buyers, sellers, and logistics partners as we expand.
Using Adana
Payments, delivery confirmation, disputes, and getting started.
Your bank transfer narration/reference is how Adana matches your payment to the correct invoice. Always copy the exact payment reference shown on the pay page. Transfers without the correct narration may not match automatically and can delay escrow funding. The pay page highlights this as a required step for secure online payment.
When payment is held in escrow, Adana can issue a delivery OTP for handoff. The seller or courier shares it with the buyer only at delivery. The buyer enters the OTP to confirm receipt and release funds. Do not share the OTP before the goods arrive — it is part of Adana’s verified delivery and buyer/seller protection model.
If a buyer opens a dispute while funds are in escrow, Adana keeps the money locked while both sides respond and evidence is reviewed. This is safer than fighting after a completed bank transfer. Provide clear photos, chat history, and delivery details. Outcomes follow Adana’s dispute process for fair buyer protection and seller protection.
