Escrow vs Bank Transfer: Which Is Safer?

Compare escrow and bank transfer for online deals in Nigeria. Learn which is safer for buyers, sellers, and high-value transactions.

Published 25 July 2026

Bank transfers are fast and familiar — but they are not designed for stranger-to-stranger commerce. Once money leaves your account, protection depends on banks, police reports, and luck.

Escrow is built for deals where trust is incomplete. Payment is collected and held, then released only after the agreed outcome. For most peer-to-peer online sales, escrow is safer.

When a bank transfer is fine

Transfers to known businesses, salary payments, or people you already trust may not need escrow. The risk is low because reputation and recourse already exist.

When escrow is clearly safer

Use escrow for Facebook Marketplace, Instagram sellers, WhatsApp Business deals, used cars, electronics, freelance projects, and any high-value purchase from someone you met online.

Adana also reduces fake payment fraud: sellers wait for escrow-funded status instead of a screenshot that can be forged in seconds.
